There are a number of sorts of Gas Central Heating Systems on the market these days. Most of them consist of a set of heating heating radiators, a boiler and copper pipework.

Gas Central Heating system can be divided into two broad categories, pumped/vented systems and sealed systems.
Pumped or vented Central Heating systems are most popularly used. An expansion tank is present in a pumped heating system. Hot water from the storage tank supplies your kitchen and bath while also heating up the heating radiators. The expansion tank has adequate space to accommodate any water expansion that occurs due to heat. You will most likely find the expansion tank kept in the highest part of the house. It heats the house and doubles as the water supply.
A lot of older homes have pumped/vented Gas Central Heating systems.
A slightly newer boiler is sealed heating system and this is the preferred central heating system in newer properties. This system doesn’t have water tanks as it’s a closed heating system, this will save you space and reduce maintenance costs as there are fewer components. The attic has no tanks or piping, the system is completely enclosed and locked, it’s not ventilated, and that has its advantages:.
- No risk of freezing pipes in the attic.
- There won’t be any repair work on the tank or pipes which will be in the attic for a pumped/vented system.
- The risk of leaks is decreased.
- The sealing of the system eliminates dirt buildup, air locking and corrosion that often troubles open vented systems.
- It is possible to flush out the system if required by using the mains water supply.
A sealed Central Heating System is a packaged unit with all the necessary controls and safety devices. The sealed system gets its water through the main water supply at pressure. The pressure of the main water supply benefits the hot water outlets and gives a healthy shower.
The system also has a pressure vessel which contains compressed gas, it controls the variations in pressure and a diaphragm is used to separate it from the sealed system. If the pressure is very high in the system, then the water will escape from the safety valve, and if the pressure is too low, then the safety valve will open to let the water in.
As compared to other heating systems, Gas Central Heating systems are cheaper to run. They also provide you with complete control which is much more than other heating systems can say about themselves.
