Do not postpone, get gas central heating this wintertime
We should all prepare for the wintertime months as the weather gets colder and the days shorter by having good gas central heating in our homes. There’s nothing cosier than a warm room while a blizzard rages outdoors, and this warmth is best provided by a sturdy and efficient central heating system.
Most heating systems compromise of a central heating boiler; heating radiator and pipework, there are basically two different sorts of central heating systems, one being a pumped system and the other being a vented system.
The most commonly used central heating systems are the pumped systems, which consists of two prominent parts, a feed and expansion tank; the tank is the core of the system, it first heats itself and then transfers the heat to the heaters through the pipes. Due to heat, the water in the tank expands and fills it up.
The vented gas central heating system, on the other hand, is a sealed system, and it doesn’t have the centre section. Water tanks are not required here because it is a closed system. A sealed central heating system removes the risk of water leakage, airlock formation and pipe freeze (a common problem in the harsh winters of countries like Russia).
So you might ask what is really the point of getting central heating?.
The primary benefit of gas central heating is that the entire home or office is warmed up rapidly, and that too, without adversely affecting the air around you. Traditional heaters like gas fires, electric heaters and storage heaters are also quite effective. However, these were not ideal as they emitted an odour and affected the condition of the air, drying it out.
These air quality issues were eliminated by gas central heating; but such a desirable environment can be ensured only by periodic servicing of the heating system to keep it running efficiently and safely. Most people switch off their central heating systems during summers and switch them on only during winters, this should be totally avoided as the system could suddenly develop a problem as wintertime appears. Instead, as the weather begins to change, you should use it by degrees in order to spot any problems and give you time to call an heating engineer before winter.
Furthermore, some of these systems also give admission to air and dirt; therefore flushing is a necessity, which should be done regularly with an annual service schedule. To flush the system, open the valve carefully and drain the collected water into a bucket, while ensuring that no further water gets into the heating system.
