The advantages and disfavours of the different heating gas boiler forms
Various types of Central Heating Systems are available in the market. Despite the different names basically these systems usually have copper pipework, central heating radiators and a gas boiler.
People in the United Kingdom, Europe and some parts of Russia, hardly need an air conditioner because of the low average temperature. Today a good Central Heating system has become a major part of every household, so much so that it is being installed in all the new houses that are being built.
A reliable Central Heating system is important to keep your house warm especially during winter months. A well heated house can help create a comfortable space for you to enjoy with your family. So you want to be sure that your Central Heating System is dependable. Additionally, your central heating system should also be safe, user-friendly and durable.
Vented (or pumped) and Sealed heating systems are the two most common types available.
Pumped/vented systems are the most common. An expansion tank is present in a pumped heating system. Your house gets hot water through the stored hot water tank, it also supplies heat to the central heating radiators. The expansion tank has adequate space to accommodate any water expansion that occurs due to heat. A pumped/vented heating system requires that the tank be installed at the highest level within the house – such as an attic or loft space, certainly on the top floor. The tank provides a dual supply of hot water and warmth for the house.
Older homes generally have pumped/vented Gas Central Heating systems.
A slightly newer, more up-to-date boiler that many people are choosing over a pumped/vented Central Heating system is a sealed system. As the name indicates, a sealed system is a an enclosed system therefore no expansion water tanks are needed. In the absence of water tanks and pipework, the whole system is sealed and vented; here are some prominent benefits of such a system.
- No risk of freezing pipes in the attic.
- There is no need to maintain the tanks and pipes as there are not present.
- Because the system is not vented, there is less chance of water leaking out.
- The risk of air locks, corroding and sludge are reduced because there won’t be any air being taken down into the system through the open holes as the system is sealed.
- If necessary, the system can be flushed out under pressure using the main water supply.
This central heating system is self contained incorporating all the safety devices and other important controls. No tank feeds a sealed system, the supply comes directly from the mains. It feeds directly from the main water supply.
Pressure variation can be regulated by a pressure vessel holding compressed gas; the hot water is pressurized by a diaphragm which also separates the water from the compressed gas. If the pressure is very high in the system, then the water will escape from the safety valve, and if the pressure is too low, then the safety valve will open to let the water in.
As compared to other heating systems, Gas Central Heating systems are cheaper to run. They also offer you all round control which is more than most heating systems do.
